Ilia Malinin (USA) has redefined Figure Skating by pushing the boundaries of what is possible on the ice. In recognition of his record-breaking feat to land seven quadruple jumps in a single program, the International Skating Union (ISU) proudly presented the sport’s first-ever “Trailblazer on Ice” Award to the athlete widely known as the “Quad God.” The historic moment took place during the Exhibition Gala of the ISU Figure Skating World Championships 2026 in Prague.

Malinin’s defining breakthrough came on December 6, 2025, at the ISU Grand Prix Final in Nagoya (JPN), where he delivered a history-making program, landing seven quadruple jumps. A first in international competition, this record-breaking feat captivated skating fans while inspiring a new generation discovering the sport through his remarkable talent.

That vision became reality in Prague, where ISU President Jae Youl Kim surprised Malinin with the Award in front of a sold-out arena, presenting him with a commemorative ring during the Exhibition Gala.

Malinin said with great emotion: “I would like to thank all of you for this memorable moment. This season has been the longest and most stressful, and without all your support, this achievement would not have been possible.

The athletes are at the heart of skating, so we are delighted to recognize this with the Trailblazer on Ice Award, because Ilia is a trailblazer of the sport as well as a great champion and a role model.”
