Obituary - Anne Schelter (CAN)

25 Feb 2025

It is with regret and sorrow that the ISU learned of the passing of renowned Figure Skating coach Mrs. Anne Schelter (CAN) who passed away on February 18, 2025.

Anne Schelter was a coach and choreographer who created a program to teach the fundamentals of good skating technique. Generations of Skaters took part in “Annie’s Edges” classes and improved their skating skills through Mrs. Schelter’s exercises that were not only useful but also enjoyable.

For many years, Mrs. Schelter guided the Canadian Synchronized Skating Team Nexxice as a coach and choreographer and was instrumental in their success. Nexxice became the first Canadian Synchronized Skating Team to win title at the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships.

As a guest coach, Mrs. Schelter shared her immense knowledge, her passion and creativity with Skaters in North America, Europe and Asia. She served as a moderator at many ISU seminars for Skaters, Coaches, and Judges.

Anne had an amazing ability to teach a lightness when it comes to skating; floating across the ice with complete ease,” the Canmore Skating Club wrote on their website.

For 19 summer camps our athletes learned from one of my skating Guru’s…. Anne Schelter,” two-time Olympic silver medalist and now coach Brian Orser (CAN) wrote on Instagram. “We are saddened by her passing and will continue her passion for the pure edge.

Her achievements were honored by her induction into Skate Canada’s Hall of Fame and her nomination as Skate Canada Competitive Coach of Excellence.

Mrs. Schelter passed away peacefully in Dundas, Ontario after a brief battle with cancer.

The ISU pays tribute to Mrs. Schelter’s unique legacy and will remember her with affection.
