Season’s Top Skaters to be recognized at ISU Awards Events

06 Mar 2026

The International Skating Union (ISU) is delighted to announce that the world’s best skaters will be honoured for their achievements during the 2025/26 season through three special ISU Skating Awards ceremonies taking place in March.

While the Awards tradition began with Figure Skating in 2020, this year marks a milestone as Speed Skating and Short Track athletes will be recognised for the first time, expanding the celebration of excellence. The ceremonies will take place successively on March 8 for Speed Skating, March 15 for Short Track, and March 29 for Figure Skating.

Concluding a memorable ISU and Olympic season, the Awards will shine a spotlight on the standout performances, record-breaking moments, and breakthrough talents that have defined the year on the ice.

ISU President Jae Youl Kim said: “Our skaters have delivered a phenomenal season, and it is wonderful to see them in the spotlight again as we celebrate their achievements in this Olympic year. As part of the ISU’s Vision 2030, the athletes are at the heart of everything the ISU does, and recognizing their dedication, talent and passion for our sports is a fitting way to bring this remarkable season to a close.”

Speed Skating Awards launch the celebrations in Heerenveen

The celebrations will begin at the ISU Speed Skating World Championships in Heerenveen (NED), where the newly crowned World Champions, the season’s World Record breakers, and the skaters with the most season Wins (women and men) will be recognized during a special ceremony at the conclusion of the competition on Sunday, March 8. Awards will also be presented for “Most Improved Skater” and “Best Newcomer”.

Short Track Awards to follow in Montreal

A week later, the spotlight will shift to the Short Track Skating Awards, which will be held on Sunday, March 15, in Montreal (CAN) across the same award categories, following the ISU CNSG Short Track World Championships.

Online voting opens for the Figure Skating Awards in Prague

Meanwhile, online voting for the ISU Figure Skating Awards will take place from Monday, March 9, until 1200 CET on March 18 through the official ISU website and App. Building on the success of previous editions, fans will once again have the opportunity to vote for their most deserved skaters from a longlist of candidates in the Best Costume, Most Entertaining Program, Best Choreographer, and Best Coach categories. The winners of these categories, along with the recipients of the Best Newcomer and Skater(s) of the Year awards, will be revealed during the Awards Ceremony in Prague (CZE), held at the conclusion of the ISU Figure Skating World Championships on Sunday, March 29.

Public voting will determine a shortlist of three nominees in each category, with the final winners selected by a distinguished panel of Figure Skating experts.

Further information regarding media attendance for the ISU Figure Skating Awards 2026 will be communicated in due course.

The skating season will conclude in Salzburg (AUT) at the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships, where the world’s top teams will come together to celebrate their achievements during a special banquet evening on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
